OBERLIN, Ohio – The Manchester University women's cross country team competed in the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday October 19. Saturday's meet was the final tune up for the Spartans before the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which will take place on Sunday November 3.
The Spartans placed 15th out of 32 teams in a field that featured some of the best NCAA Division III cross country programs in the entire nation.
Leading the way for MU was senior Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City). Wappes placed fourth overall in Saturday's 6k race that featured a total of 283 runners. Wappes clocked in a time of 21:35.7, besting her previous career mark set earlier this fall by 37 seconds. Wappes now holds the second fastest time in program history in a 6k race.
Junior Ana Acevedo (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) placed 60th in Saturday's race. Acevedo crossed the finish line with a time of 23:03.7, shattering her previous career-best time set earlier this fall by over 50 seconds. Acevedo's time on Saturday stands as the 10th best time in school history in a 6k race.
Senior Emily Ewen (Wolcott, Ind./Tri-County) finished 97th overall after posting a time of 23:27.3. Sophomore Kelsey Tyler (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) posted a season-best time of 24:02 on Saturday morning.
Dinah Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind./Memorial) set a new personal record at Oberlin, finishing Saturday's race with a time of 24:26.8. Senior Emily Lynn (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) also set a new personal best, crossing the finish line with a time of 24:27.6.
