Cross Country Competes at Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Both the men's and women's cross country teams were in action this weekend as the Spartans competed at the Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park in Kentucky.

Student-athletes from Manchester competed across four different races that featured schools from across Division I, II, III, and NAIA.

Hannah Wappes continued her excellent senior campaign with a third-place finish in the women's silver race.  Wappes clocked in a time of 21:22.4.  Emily Ewen (Wolcott, Ind./Tri-County) was the next Spartan to cross the finish line in the silver race, finishing with a time of 22:52.5.

On the men's side, Lucas Fontanez (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) led MU with a time of 26:05.8 in the 8k silver race.  Fontanez placed 93rdSam Barnard (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial) was the next Spartan to finish on Saturday.  Barnard posted a time of 26:30.9.

 Manchester will have three events remaining on its schedule.  The 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships will be on November 3 in Terre Haute, Ind.

The NCAA Division III National Championships will be on November 23 in Louisville, Ky.
