Black and Gold teams finish within top 20 at NCAA Regionals, Tyler earns all-region honors

SHELBYVILLE, IND. - Manchester University's men's and women's cross country teams placed within the top 20 at the 2018 NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships, while women's team freshman Kelsey Tyler (Rochester, Ind.) earned all-region honors. The honoree was recognized Monday for her effort, and the meet was held on Saturday.

Manchester University's women's team placed 12th overall at Saturday's NCAA Regional meet. Tyler represented the women's team by earning all-region honors after placing 28th overall with a time of 22 minutes, 51 seconds. Junior Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) was the second top finisher for the Spartans with a 44th place finish (23:13), and senior Samina Qureshi (Columbia City, Ind.)  was the last top-100 finisher for Manchester placing 65th (23:32). 

The men's team added another top-20 finish, placing 19th overall. Junior Daniel Baker (Okemos, Mich.), and sophomore Lucas Fontanez (Lowell, Ind.) led the way for Manchester after placing within the top 100. Baker finished 48th (26:14), and Fontanez placed 61st (26:23). 

The NCAA Regional meet concludes the men's and women's cross country seasons for 2018.
