MU wins HCAC championship team title, four earn HCAC honors

SHELBYVILLE, IND. - Manchester University won the women's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team title, and had four top 15 performers on Saturday at Blue River Cross Country Course.

The Spartans won the HCAC championship with 55 points. Leading the Spartans with a top-five performance was junior Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) placing fourth with a time of 23 minutes 10.5 seconds. Freshman Kelsey Tyler (Rochester, Ind.) and senior Samina Qureshi (Columbia City, Ind.) both finished within the top ten. Tyler finished sixth (23:31), and Qureshi finished tenth (24:09). Rounding up the top 15 was junior Ana Acevedo (Chesterton, Ind.) placing 14th with a time of 24:23. Wappes, Tyler, and Qureshi earned first team all-league honors, while Acevedo was tabbed all-league honorable mention. 

Bluffton University was the team runner-up scoring 61 points. The Beaver's junior Alexis Cash was the individual champion with a time of 22:38. Rose-Hulman finished third as a team, and had two runners finish in the top five. Rounding up the top five team scores was Hanover placing fourth with 86 points, and Earlham placing fifth with 99 points. 

The Spartans will be traveling back to Blue River Cross Country Course to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, on Nov. 10.
