MU men turn in top five finish, women among top 15 at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Fueled by a top 10 individual finish from senior Curtis Nordmann (Bourbon, Ind.), Manchester University gave United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association top 10-ranked Calvin College a stiff test Saturday, Sept. 14.

Nordmann covered the course in 25:21.7 to place 10th. Fellow seniors Michael Stocker (Yorktown, Ind.) and Jon Cafarelli (Lansing, Ill.) were nearby, as Stocker took 15th (25:33.4), and Cafarelli was one spot behind in 16th (25:34.3). The No. 9-ranked and host Knights had one runner place seventh and managed four in the top 40 en route to a 142-147 edge over the Spartans for third place.

Senior Clayton Harlan (Terre Haute, Ind.) (79th – 26:38.7) and freshman Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) (84th – 26:41.7) rounded out the top five for the No. 29-ranked Spartans.

In the women's team race, MU wound up 13th with 374 points. Freshman Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) guided them individually, placing 33rd. Sophomore Anna McGowen (Williamsport, Ind.) was also within the top 100, placing 89th, while junior Rachel Weeber (Goshen, Ind.) was just outside the top 100 in 101st.

Manchester University's teams resume a stretch of strong competition Friday, Sept. 20, when they run for team and individual awards at the 2013 Indiana Intercollegiate Championships. IU-Bloomington is meet host.
