Defiance trip next for MU

Fresh off a men's team championship and women's team third-place finish at its Hokem Karem event Aug. 31, Manchester University gets a look at the host course for the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Friday, Sept. 6, when it competes at the Defiance College of Ohio Duals.

Meet specifics: Competition is set around Defiance College's campus. Start times are 5 p.m. for the women's 6K and 6 p.m. for the men's 8K.

Spartan Shorts: The senior pair of Jon Cafarelli (Lansing, Ill.) and Clayton Harlan (Terre Haute, Ind.) helped lead the No. 29-ranked United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III and No. 3-ranked USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region men's squad last weekend with the individual title. Fellow seniors Curtis Nordmann (Bourbon, Ind.) and Chris LaFree (South Bend, Ind.) ended just two spots back in third. … MU's women were topped by juniors Brianna Martinez (Schererville, Ind.) and Sarah Stahl (Montpelier, Ohio). They combined to place seventh. The Black and Gold also had sophomore Anna McGowen (Williamsport, Ind.) and freshman Tiffany Harber (Columbia City, Ind.) pair up for a 10th-place effort.

Regional Course View: MU takes a northern journey to Grand Rapids, Mich., for the Calvin College Knights Invitational Saturday, Sept. 14. The meet will be held on the same course where the 2013 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional is contested.
