Spartans tabbed HCAC favorites

Manchester University was tabbed the preseason favorites to defend their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's and women's cross country championships with the release of the coaches' preseason poll Monday, Aug. 26.

The Spartans are seeking fifth straight men's and women's HCAC titles this fall. MU's men's program received 99 ranking points and nine of 10 first-place votes, while the women earned 97 ranking points and eight first-place votes. Manchester University opens the 2013 season Saturday, Aug. 31, with its annual Hokum Karem event, competed on campus. The host Spartans will be joined by fellow HCAC members Anderson University and Defiance College along with National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' power Indiana Tech and NCAA Division I member Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Race start times are 10 a.m. for the women and 10:45 a.m. for the men.
