COSTA MESA, Calif. - Vanguard University turned in a remarkable .310 team attack percentage Monday, Oct. 8, sending the host Lions to a 25-9, 25-16, 25-16 sweep of Manchester University.
VU, ranked No. 15 on the current National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' poll, was buoyed by its front line. Sophomore Chloe Fry made the biggest impact with 13 kills and no errors in 21 attempts for a sparkling .619 attack percentage. Interim head coach Ivan Matos' crew, which dropped to 5-13 and wound up a Golden State fall break sojourn with a 1-3 mark, was guided by senior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) who tallied five kills and an impressive night from freshman middle hitter Kara Heckmuller (Cincinnati, Ohio) who finished with two kills, two solo blocks and two block assists.
