RICHMOND, IND. – A plethora of double-digit figures spotlighted Manchester University statistics' sheet Saturday, Sept. 29.
Unfortunately, even with numbers like 15 kills for senior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) and 10 more successful attacks from freshman middle hitter/outside hitter Samantha Campbell (Brownsburg, Ind.); 18 digs from junior defensive specialist/libero Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) and 17 other defensive saves from senior outside hitter Kaitlin Mindiola (Coatsville, Ind.); and a gaudy 20 team block assists, interim head coach Ivan Matos' crew couldn't overcome a hard-charging Earlham College squad at Druley Performance Gymnasium. The Quakers broke away from a 1-1 tie after each team won identical 25-20 sets by claiming 25-19, 25-23 victories for the 3-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match decision.
Looking deeper into the Black and Gold's numbers, the senior middle hitter duo of Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) and Emma Voelker (North Bend, Ohio) were a difficult task for the home team offense, each producing six total blocks. Lawrie, adding to her 10th successive double-digit digs match, served up three aces, and the setting pair of senior Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) and sophomore Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind.) combined for 30 assists.
MU (4-10 overall, 1-2 HCAC) moves out of league action with a four-match tour of California over fall break Friday, Oct. 5 – Monday, Oct. 8.
