NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Senior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) registered a second 20-kill match of the week, guiding the headlines for Manchester University during Friday, Sept. 14, action at the 2018 MU Invitational.
Duncan drilled 20 kills with a just as impressive .357 attack percentage to top a group of three members of interim head coach Ivan Matos' side in a five-set loss to Indiana University-Northwest to begin the Black and Gold's tournament resume. Freshman middle/outside hitter Samantha Campbell (Brownsburg, Ind.) added 11 kills and 17 digs for a double-double, her first in a collegiate uniform, and senior middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) finished with 10 kills to go along with a solo block and block assist.
Governors State of Illinois dropped the Spartans to 1-7 on the season, winning in four sets to conclude the first day. Campbell and Duncan proved to be a strong one-two offensive punch, garnering 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
The positives didn't end there. Other glittering totals for Manchester University came from sophomore setter Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind.) who reeled off her second and third successive 20-plus assist totals (26 and 23) and junior defensive specialist/libero Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) who increased her string of double-digit dig contests to four with 12 and 10, respectively, and served up a combined six aces over the two matches.
MU continues action in their home tournament Saturday, Sept. 15. They face off against Wilmington College of Ohio at 11 a.m. and St. Mary's College of Indiana at 3 p.m.
