Front line quartet leads numbers on opening weekend

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Senior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.); senior middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.); junior middle hitter Emily Bailey (Warsaw, Ind.); and freshman outside/middle hitter Samantha Campbell (Brownsburg, Ind.) each found themselves in kill double-digits Friday and Saturday, August 31, and September 1.

Despite interim head coach Ivan Matos' crew winding up 0-4 results-wise at the Lake Forest College Forester Invitational, Duncan drilled 26 kills and put up four total blocks, three of which were solo, to account for over two points per set, highlighting individual play. Bailey had the best attack percentage amongst Spartans appearing in 10-or-more sets (.180); Tevis rattled opposing defenses with 13 kills, a .135 attack percentage, and three solo blocks; and Campbell made a solid impression in her first outing for the Black and Gold with ten kills and seven digs.

Manchester University dropped a four-set battle with Carroll College of Wisconsin in the tourney opener and was swept by the host school, Loras College of Iowa, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering to conclude the two-day Windy City excursion. The Spartans wrap up a five-match road trip Tuesday, Sept. 4, facing off against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association member St. Mary's College of Indiana at 7 p.m. inside SMC's Angela Athletic and Wellness Center in Notre Dame, Ind.
