Spartans take midweek momentum on road

Fresh off a rousing three-set win over Anderson University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, Manchester University faces tri-match competition at the University of Cincinnati at Clermont Saturday, Oct. 14.

Match details: Coach Bryndon Paulsen's side faces the University of Ohio at Chillicothe at 1 p.m. and host UC-Clermont at 3 p.m. at the Student Activities Center on UC-Clermont's campus.

Spartan Shorts: MU (9-8 overall) put the brakes to a four-match skid with the robust 25-20, 25-23, 29-27 sweep of the league rival Ravens Oct. 11. A historical note occurred for the program for junior setter Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) during the evening. With her 15 assists, she became just the third player in program history to go over the 2,000 mark. "She's been so important (to what we do)," Paulsen said. "I thought tonight might have been the best volleyball she's played this season. She did so coming off a difficult weekend, and I'm glad to see her be able to bounce back like that. Overall, it was just a great atmosphere (to be part of). It was tremendous to see some many athletes out to support the team. It makes it fun to play when there is a crowd like that." … Manchester University's victory was also aided by junior outside hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) who ripped 14 kills at the AU defense with glowing results, hitting at a .333 clip. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Bailey (Warsaw, Ind.) came up with a big night's effort, too, with three kills and no errors in five attempts for a stratospheric .600 attack percentage. Other substantial numbers for the Black and Gold came from sophomore defensive specialist Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) (20 digs); sophomore middle hitter Riley Patterson (Walkerton, Ind.) (three service aces); and freshman setter Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind.) (19 assists) … Conference play has suited Duncan well. She's been above ten kills and over a .200 attack percentage in four of the six contests which has been part of the story for a number seven ranking in the loop in kills per set (2.77) … Junior middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) has managed to create difficulties for opposing offenses of late. She's registered at least a solo block or block assist in six of the last seven matches.

HCAC Schedule Continues: Manchester University pays a visit to Defiance College Wednesday, Oct. 18. Match time is 7 p.m.
