NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The sophomore combination of outside hitter Emma DeWitt (Brookston, Ind.) and middle hitter Riley Patterson (Walkerton, Ind.) fueled a three-set sweep of Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College Friday, Sept. 15, highlighting the home team's evening at the 2017 Manchester University Invitational.
DeWitt, who's been predisposed to putting up gaudy numbers this season, continued that trend against an overwhelmed Quakers' defense. She tallied 13 kills, a career single-match personal best and second time as a collegian that she's been in double digits, to go with a .200 attack percentage and eight digs. Patterson wasn't far behind, drilling nine kills in 20 attempts with just one error for a .400 percentage as the Black and Gold took a 25-18, 25-12, 25-20 win.
MU, who saw their season record reach .500 (4-4), began its evening inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, scooting past Boyce College at Southern 25-4, 25-18, 25-21. The three-set victory saw all but two current roster members involved. Patterson and junior outside hitter Kaitlin Mindiola (Roachdale, Ind.) led the kills' category with six each, while freshman defensive specialist Alexandria Collins (Lowell, Ind.) made the most of an opportunity at setter with 23 assists, and senior outside hitter Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.) had an active match with four kills and a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage, two assists, a service ace, two digs and a block assist.
Paulsen's squad resumes invitational action Saturday, Sept. 16. They take on Governors State of Illinois at 11 a.m. and rematch with Boyce College at Southern at 1 p.m.
