Manchester University joins National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' members Huntington University and Aquinas College of Michigan for a tri-match Saturday, Oct. 8.

Match details: The Spartans (11-6) face the host Foresters (9-9) at 11 a.m. and the Saints of Aquinas (10-7) at 1 p.m. All matches are set for Platt Arena inside the Merillat Athletic Complex on HU's campus.

Spartan Shorts: Coach Bryndon Paulsen's squad has won four of its last five including a thrilling five-set nailbiter at Anderson University Oct. 5. A personal milestone and a piece of program history was achieved in the wake of the Black and Gold moving over the .500 mark in conference play. Senior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) became the fourth student-athlete in school history to reach the 1,000-career kill mark, tallying a team-high 18 to go with 25 digs during the evening … Chowning is one of three MU team members listed within the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's statistical top five. She leads the way in kills per set (3.66) and is fifth in total kills (211). Joining her are sophomore setter Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) and freshman defensive specialist/libero Caroline Aiken (Muncie, Ind.). Stanichuk tops the assists (10.16) and service aces (.54) per set categories with Aiken sitting fourth in service aces (.42 per set). Stanichuk's assist numbers rank among the top 25 in NCAA Division III, too … The Black and Gold open a span of three successive contests at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Wednesday, Oct. 12.
