MU set for league rivals' meeting

A stretch of three matches in four days begins Wednesday, Oct. 5, for Manchester University.

Match details: First serve between the Spartans (10-6 overall, 2-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) and Anderson University (7-11 overall, 1-1 HCAC) is 7 p.m. at AU's O.C. Lewis Gymnasium … MU holds a slight 3-2 edge in the last five matches against its league rival including a four-set victory inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena last season.

Spartan Shorts: Coach Bryndon Paulsen's team leads the way in three conference overall statistical categories among four top five rankings. Sophomore setter Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) headlines the assists (9.98) and service ace (.56) per set columns, and senior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) is first in kills per set (3.66) and fifth in total kills (194). Stanichuk's assist numbers have also merited mention on the national statistics report, as she is 22nd on the list … Chowning can reach a personal and program milestone Wednesday. She's two kills shy of becoming the fourth Black and Gold player to reach 1,000 in her career … Both student-athletes played key roles in the program's first win at Transylvania University since 2007 Oct. 2. Stanichuk put up 41 assists and served six aces, while Chowning was among four players in kill double figures. The remainder of the quartet was sophomore outside hitter Farren Miller (Lebanon, Ind.), sophomore right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) and sophomore middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) … Tevis takes an impressive skein to AU, as she's registered three-or-more total blocks in three successive appearances. Freshman defensive specialist/libero Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) has a run of nine straight matches with double-figure digs of which two have seen her accumulate 20 or more.

Huntington Visit: The Spartans take on the Foresters and Aquinas College of Michigan Saturday, Oct. 8, at HU.
