Spartan Shorts: MU (9-5 overall, 1-1 HCAC) rides a modest two-match win skein. They opened the week with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-13 sweep of Indiana University – Northwest at Gary, Ind., Sept. 26 and claimed their last loop date, upending Franklin College in four sets at home (25-14, 25-27, 26-24, 27-25) … Over its last nine matches, the Black and Gold is 8-1, as they're hitting .183 compared to .093 for the opposition as well as averaging just under three service aces and 15 digs per set. Along individual lines, senior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) has compiled 101 kills, 15 service aces and 98 digs in the span, each of which are team highs, while the underclasswoman duo of sophomore middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) and freshman outside hitter Emma DeWitt (Brookston, Ind.) are above .250 in attack percentage (Tevis - .350/DeWitt - .293). Tevis has contributed a team-best 13 blocks, and sophomore setter Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) has tossed up 290 assists in that stretch, too … Due in large part to their recent success, Chowning and Stanichuk continue to grace the conference's overall statistical top five. Chowning leads the way in kills per set (3.76), and Stanichuk is first in assists per set (10.07) and second in service aces per set (.48). Two of the three data bytes register well on the NCAA Division III statistics, too, as Chowning is in the top 50 of points per set (4.36 – No. 48), and Stanichuk is part of the top 25 in assists per set (No. 21) through Sept. 28 matches … Chowning goes into the weekend just 23 kills shy of becoming the fourth Spartans' student-athlete to reach the 1,000 career mark.
Road Trip Continues: Manchester University travels to conference rival Anderson University Wednesday, Oct. 5, and is part of a triangular at Huntington University Saturday, Oct. 8.
