Spartans picked eighth on HCAC poll

Manchester University was picked for an eighth-place finish on the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball coaches' preseason poll, released Thursday, Aug. 8.

The Spartans, coming off an 11-19 overall and 2-7 HCAC mark from 2012, received 31 poll points. League rival Anderson University was just ahead of MU with 42 points for seventh.

Mt. St. Joseph was tabbed the preseason favorite (88 points) in a close-knit race with Transylvania (81 points), as the Pioneers earned five first-place votes and the Lions accumulated four. The complete poll can be seen at http://www.heartlandconf.org.

Coach Kendra Marlowe's squad opens the season at the Kalamazoo College of Michigan Hornet Invitational Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 and 31.
