KALAMAZOO, MICH. – Despite four players finishing in kill double figures Saturday, Sept. 22, Manchester University's volleyball squad was felled in a pair of tightly-contested non-conference matches at the Anderson Athletic Center on Kalamazoo College's campus.
The Spartans, dipping to 9-7, lost in five to Adrian College and dropped a four-set battle with the host Hornets that included a 34-32 final in set three. Freshman outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) continued a strong first-year campaign with 34 kills, 25 of which occurred against Adrian, three service aces and 32 digs. Fellow Noblesville native Morgan Pavelka hammered 24 kills and was the squad leader in blocks (one solo, six assisted), while junior outside hitter Kelsie Fieler (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied 14 kills, and freshman outside/middle hitter Kelsie Thomas (Wabash, Ind.) turned in 11 kills and four block assists.
Manchester University moves into the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference portion of its schedule Wednesday, Sept. 26, with a 7:30 p.m. match at Bluffton University of Ohio.
NOTES: Pruden's 25 kills against Adrian marked the third time this season she's been at-or-above 20 in a match. She went over the 200 mark for the season over the weekend. … Pavelka's back-to-back double-figure kill outings continued a strong recent run where she's hit double digits three times over the last four contests.
