GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Manchester University outdoor track and field programs competed at the Indiana DIII Championships on Saturday afternoon at DePauw.
The women placed fifth overall in the meet that featured athletes from nine Indiana Division III institutions. The women earned 71 points. Trine won the women's meet with 190.5 points.
Laina Boggs earned an event win for the Spartans in the shot put. Boggs led the field with a distance of 11.83 meters. Boggs also placed second in the javelin throw with a final hurl of 35.60 meters.
Hannah Wappes earned a second-place finish in the 1500 meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:43.37.
Third-place finishes on the day included Faith-Alexis Graham's performance in the 400 meters. Graham posted a final time of 1:01.65. Ana Acevedo finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.47. Kelsey Tyler also finished third in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:50.61. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Samina Qureshi placed third with a final time of 11:47.15.
On the men's side, the Spartans totaled 40.5 points and placed seventh. Perennial power Wabash College won the men's meet with 244.5 points.
Senior Justin Meredith placed third in the triple jump with a final leap of 12.59 meters.
Samuel Barnard placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase following a time of 9:53.32. Dane Stookey earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump. Stookey cleared a height of 1.79 meters (5 feet, 10.5 inches).
Both the men and women will compete at Ohio Northern next weekend. Hammer and javelin athletes will begin competition on Friday April 19. The remaining athletes will compete on Saturday April 20.
