NAPERVILLE, ILL. – Senior men's distance runner Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) and freshman women's middle distance runner Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) each registered career personal bests Friday, May 12, leading Manchester University during the second day of North Central College of Illinois' Dr. Keeler Invitational.
Wappes ran to a 2:18.03, second fastest in program history, to place her 24th among a 64-runner field. Gudeman resumed a sky-rocketing rise to the latter half of his season, too, clocking a 9:21.82 to end up 22nd. His time set a new second-fastest mark for the program, just a week removed from a 9:29.11 he registered at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, and also put him into the top 40 of the NCAA Division III national performance list.
Sophomore men's sprinter Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.) added a highlight for the Spartans, compiling a top 15 mark in the 200. His time of 22.21 seconds placed him 12th in the 51-competitor field.
Manchester University wraps up its regular season Wednesday and Thursday, May 17 and 18, returning to NCC's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium for the Gregorian Invitational.
