MU looks to resume strong start at Indiana D3 Championships

Manchester University looks for continued improvements on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III performance lists Saturday, April 11.

Meet specifics: The Spartans compete at the Indiana Division III Championships hosted by DePauw University … Competition is set for Blackstock Stadium on DePauw's campus in Greencastle, Ind. Events are scheduled to begin  at 11 a.m.

Spartan Shorts: Men – MU is coming off a strong performance at its home Spartan Track Classic April 2. The Black and Gold produced five top five finishes led by an event title in the hammer throw and runner-up mark in the discus from senior thrower Stephen Coble (Edwardsburg, Mich.) … With two qualification weeks remaining, Coble is first in the discus and second in the hammer on the current HCAC performance list. Sophomore distance runner Riley Worl (Russiaville, Ind.) also has a top five ranking in the 10,000 meters … Coble's discus and hammer throw performances have also earned him a spot on the national lists. He's No. 35 in the discus and No. 42 in the hammer. He and senior jumps specialist Austin Finley (Kokomo, Ind.) look to repeat impressive finishes from last year's Indiana D3 meet, as Coble was runner-up in the hammer and Finley was third in the high jump.

Women – The Black and Gold enters the Indiana D3 Championships on a roll. They claimed four event titles at their home Spartan Track Classic April 2 and recorded a strong third-place mark at the Hanover Invitational March 28 to date … Sophomore thrower Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind.) set a new school record in the hammer throw to highlight the STC. Her 157-foot, 10-inch moon toss is second-best in the conference and among the top 25 in NCAA Division III. Freshman jumps specialist Paige Keller (Greenville, Ohio) also set a new school standard in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, eight inches to break the mark for a second successive meet. It has her atop the HCAC performance list. Senior jumps specialist Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif), in the high jump, and sophomore distance runner Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.), in the 5000, added event titles last week … With two qualification weeks remaining, MU is first in five events (Rowe – high jump; Keller – pole vault; freshman thrower Jacey Cauhorn of Kendallville, Ind. – discus; and Jordan – 5000/10,000) on the conference performance sheet. Aator is a close second in the hammer as is Rowe in the triple jump, while the sophomore duo of Tiffany Harber (Columbia City, Ind.) and Ruth Ritchey – Moore (Bryan, Ohio) are three-four in the 10,000; the 4x100 meter relay is fourth-fastest; senior Megan Nibert (La Porte, Ind.) is third in the pole vault; Aator is within the top five in the shot put; and Cauhorn and fellow freshman Kara Brueckman (Crown Point, Ind.) are in the top five of the javelin … Jordan and Rowe are also in the top 10 of their respective events on the current national list. Rowe's sixth in the high jump as is Jordan in the 10,000. Looking further on the national rankings, the Spartans have Aator's top 25 in the hammer throw, a No. 36 mark in the 10,000 for Harber and a No. 45 listing for Cauhorn in the discus … Rowe (high and triple jump), Jordan (5000) and Aator (hammer throw) each look to defend titles at this weekend's Indiana D3 meet.

On the Horizon: MU closes out the pre-HCAC Championships section of its schedule Saturday, April 18, when it joins the field at the Huntington University Invitational.
