NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Another glowing afternoon in the field events helped guide Manchester University at its home Spartan Track Classic Thursday, April 2.
Sophomore thrower Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind.) continued the indoor/outdoor record-setting pace for the Spartans. Her winning throw in the hammer (157 feet, 10 inches) set a new school record, bypassing the former program-best mark of 46.93 meters (153 feet, 11 inches) set by Amy Hoffman in 2004. It's also the second-longest in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and ranks 18th in NCAA Division III.
Aator's hammer throw championship was one of four event titles for the Black and Gold. Senior jumps specialist Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.) claimed the high jump (five feet, five inches); freshman jumps specialist Paige Keller (Greenville, Ohio) won the pole vault (10 feet, eight inches); and sophomore distance runner Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) cruised the 5000 meter championship, defeating the field by nearly 35 seconds (18:46.5).
Looking further into MU's finishes, the home team produced a quartet of third-place marks, too. Freshman thrower Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) placed third in the discus (123 feet, eight inches) and javelin (94 feet even); freshman Olivia Jenks (Elkhart, Ind.) was third in the triple jump (31 feet, three and three-quarters inches); and senior Megan Nibert (LaPorte, Ind.) cleared nine feet, six and a quarter inches for third in the pole vault.
Manchester University continues its season Saturday, April 11. They join the field for the 2015 Indiana Division III Championships, hosted by DePauw University, in Greencastle, Ind.
NOTES: Keller's pole vault height re-set the school record she had registered at Hanover the week prior and also moved her to the top of the HCAC performance list … Rowe also made her way to the top spot on the conference performance list in the high jump as did Jordan in the 5000.
