TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The MU women's indoor track teams kicked off the 2019 season at Rose-Hulman's "Friday Night Spikes Opener."
The Spartans competed against Rose-Hulman, Washington (Mo.) and Hanover College on Friday night.
MU earned 14 points on the night. National power-house Washington (Mo.) led the field with 98.33 points. In 2017, the Bears won both the NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor track and field titles.
Rose-Hulman and Hanover finished with 28 and 20.66 points respectively.
Point scoring performances for the Spartans included:
- Freshman Olivia Brooks highlighted the night with a win in the shot put, leading the field with a top throw of 11.09 meters.
- Hannah Wappes earned a second-place finish in the 3000 meters, finishing with a time of 10:36.97. Kelsey Tyler also earned a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:46.40.
- Austin Jones and Tara Conley placed two and three in the weight throw with respective distances of 14.23 meters and 12.60 meters.
The Spartans will compete again next weekend at Trine on Saturday January 19.
