NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Sophomore Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and freshman Chelsea Brettnacher (West Lafayette, Ind.) picked up victories to lead Manchester University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday, Oct. 12.
Eichenauer gained her second successive number one singles decision, claiming a 6-3, 6-0 sweep of Mt. St. Joseph's Blake Nelson. She joined Brettnacher at the top doubles spout for the combination's third win of the year and second straight, topping Nelson and Hanna Bruerman 8-1.
The visiting Lions claimed a 6-2 win at MU's outdoor courts but the team final was in question right down to the final point. Freshman Kaitlyn Burger (Syracuse, Ind.) pushed her opponent to a 12-10 tiebreaker thriller at number three singles, while junior Morgan Brazzo (Mentone, Ind.) was nearing a potential singles' victory at number four before rained called the contest at one set each.
MU (0-9 overall, 0-7 HCAC) concludes its 2018 fall season Saturday, Oct. 13. Hanover College pays a visit for a 2 p.m. start.
