DEFIANCE, OHIO – Seniors Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) and Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.) drew up double bagel victories at number one and six singles, guiding Manchester University to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual win Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Ashpole's 6-0, 6-0 domination of Defiance College's Sydney Huston kept her unbeaten in singles action, as she moved to 4-0. She also remained unblemished in doubles competition, joining fellow Class of 2018 member Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) for an 8-4 decision against Mackenzie Combs and Courtney Alexander at the number three slot.
Looking further into the 9-0 final at DC's Dix Tennis Facility, freshman Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) joined Ashpole atop the Black and Gold's singles' win list (four) with a straight-set victory at number three. Going into the weekend, the quartet of Eichenauer, Cordill, Ashpole and senior Mariam Ali (Giza, Egypt) is each 3-0 in league singles play; and all three of Coach Eric Christiansen's doubles pairings have similar marks.
Manchester University (3-2 overall, 3-0 HCAC) resumes a run of three straight road match-ups Saturday, Sept. 30, at Franklin College's Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex. First serve against the Grizzlies is 11 a.m.
