Black and Gold face home, away weekend

Winners of four consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match-ups, Manchester University looks to keep their hot streak going Saturday, Sept. 24, hosting Franklin College. The following afternoon, the Spartans step out of league action to take on Ohio Northern University.

Dual details: First serve is 10 a.m. at MU's courts located on the northwest section of the North Manchester, Ind., campus … Sunday's clash with the Polar Bears of the Ohio Athletic Conference begins at 3 p.m. at the University of St. Francis' Swinney Courts in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Spartan Shorts: Junior Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) and sophomore Mariam Aly (Giza, Egypt) each upped their singles' win strings to four, and the doubles' pairings of Aly and Cordill and seniors Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) and Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.) did the same, leading the Spartans Sept. 21. Coach Eric Christiansen's squad, improving to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the league, took control from the get-go. The three doubles' teams dropped just two games to the visiting Yellowjackets. The theme continued in singles' play, as Aly and junior Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) both picked up straight-set blankings (6-0, 6-0) … Aly and Cordill go into the weekend having won four consecutive singles' contests, while Beckner has a three-match skein in tow. In doubles' play, Aly and Cordill and Beckner and Brown have each collected four successive victories … Since a season-opening 9-0 loss to National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' member Goshen in the fall opener, MU has won three duals 9-0 as part of the current run. In two of those decisions, the Black and Gold dropped a total of only 18 game losses.

Looking Ahead: MU goes to Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind., for a double dual with the men's program Thursday, Sept. 29.
