Black and Gold keep HCAC unbeaten string intact

RICHMOND, IND. – Sophomore Mariam Aly (Giza, Egypt) and junior Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) each upped respective singles' win strings to three and did the same at number one doubles Sunday, Sept. 18, leading Manchester University.

Aly, winner of six of her last seven sets with four coming by 6-0 scores, blanked Earlham College's Kaitlin Morgan 6-0, 6-0, at number two. Cordill, who's won six consecutive sets since a season-opening loss to Grace College's top player that went to a superbreaker, rolled 6-3, 6-1 over the Quakers' Arrita Domi at number one. Those two victories were part of all six singles' wins going straight sets for Coach Eric Christiansen's squad.

The Spartans' doubles pairings were equally as dominant. Ali-Cordill, juniors Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) and Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.) and seniors Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.) and Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) all claimed 8-0 victories.

MU, moving to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference to continue the program's best league start since 2007, begin their fall home slate Wednesday, Sept. 21. Defiance College of Ohio comes to North Manchester for a 4:30 p.m. first serve.
