Manchester University's women open a three-dual week Wednesday, Sept. 18, hosting Defiance College of Ohio in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Spartan men's and women's teams welcome St. Francis University of Fort Wayne, Ind., to the college's courts Thursday, Sept. 19, and the women continue their conference slate Saturday, Sept. 21, with a trip to Earlham.
Dual specifics: Wednesday's meeting with the Yellowjackets is set for 4 p.m., while the double-dual with the Cougars starts at 3 p.m. Saturday's dual at Earlham, set for EC's outdoor courts, begins at 10 a.m.
Spartan Shorts: Coach Eric Christiansen's women's squad is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the HCAC to date. The men are 0-2 halfway through their fall schedule … Senior Jillian Bower (Galveston, Ind.) tops the women's singles' records at 2-1, and she and freshman Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) are unbeaten after a win at Transylvania University last weekend. The trio of seniors Abby Berry (Huntington, Ind.) and Brandy Leeper (Bremen, Ind.) and sophomore Morgan Wolf (Otterbein, Ind.) are all at .500 in singles' play with 1-1 marks, while Bower and Wolf are similar in doubles … On the men's statistics' sheet, senior Bobby Swaby (Farmersburg, Ind.), junior Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind.) and freshman Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.) are all 1-1 to lead the singles' grouping. Smith and senior Miro Arguijo III (Corpus Christi, Tex.) own the lone doubles' win.
NEXT WEEK'S SCHEDULE: MU's men close their fall campaign, hosting Bethel College of Indiana, Monday, Sept. 23. The women also face the Pilots at Manchester University's courts to open a three-dual schedule. Rose-Hulman and Franklin visit North Manchester in HCAC play Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29.
