Spartan Shorts: Freshman Shelby Kell (Charlottesville, Ind.) and junior Mikki Goetz (Highland, Ind.) represent the women's team, while juniors Guerby Ruuska (Rensselaer, Ind.) and Anjel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.) compete for the men. According to Coach Mike Kroll, Kell is scheduled to swim the 50 and 100-yard freestyles along with the possibility of the 200-yard freestyle race; Goetz is entered in the 500-yard freestyle; Ruuska will be in the pool for the 200-yard backstroke, and Clemente is part of the field in the one-meter diving competition … Kell enters the Fast Chance have clocked her fastest 50-yard and 200-freestyle races in the Spartans' most recent outing at the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 9-11. She swam a 25.65, good for a new school record, in the 50 and hit the pad in 2:06.76 in the 200 which placed her eighth and also set a new program standard. Her season best in the 100 (59.34) occurred in November. Goetz' top year's mark and personal record in the 500 (5:45.54) happened at the HCACs and is the second-fastest all-time. Ruuska's 2:15.03, a career personal best, took place at the conference meet and ranks second in program's history for the 200-yard backstroke. Clemente is coming off a 435.35-point total, good for fourth, in the one-meter at the HCAC meet … Clemente continues his 2017-18 diving season Friday, March 2, at the 2018 NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by the University of Chicago.
