TERRE HAUTE, IND. – An 183-point team total over the first two days of the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships kept Manchester University near the standings' top three.
Two fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays Friday, Feb. 9, got the Spartans' surge started at the Vigo County Aquatics Center. Junior Mikki Goetz (Highland, Ind.) and freshmen Katie Blystone (Carmel, Ind.), Shelby Kell (Charlottesville, Ind.) and Bailey Conder (Greenwood, Ind.) clocked a 1:46.42 in the 200-yard freestyle, and Blystone and Kell came back in the night's final race along with senior Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.) and junior Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) to touch the wall in 4:21.66 in the 400-yard medley.
Blystone and Clark came back Saturday, Feb. 10, to lead the way. Blystone wound up third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.67), and Clark swam to a 1:02.27 in the 100-yard backstroke for fourth. They were also the first and third legs in the 800-yard freestyle relay, joining Goetz and Kell to wind up third (8:36.19), and they held the same spots on the 200-yard medley race competing with McBride and Conder for fourth (1:59.77).
