NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A clash with Ohio Athletic Conference foe Baldwin-Wallace University Saturday, Nov. 4, saw more improvements for Coach Mike Kroll's men's and women's teams.
Despite a pair of defeats in the team points section to a traditionally-strong Yellowjacket program, the Black and Gold gave the crowd gathered inside Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center plenty to cheer about. On the men's side, sophomore sprinter Christain Poole (Anderson, Ind.) won the 50-yard freestyle, nipping BW's John Beyer at the pad by seventh-tenths of a second (22.7-23.4), and junior diver Angel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.) got his season off a flying start, sweeping the five-dive, six dive and 11-dive overall competitions with scores of 174.65, 236.7 and 411.35. While the women's squad didn't pick up an event victory, they did add to their early-season record breaking theme, as the 200-yard medley relay swam to a 2:04.21 behind the quartet of senior Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.), junior Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) and freshmen Katie Blystone (Carmel, Ind.) and Bailey Conder (Greenwood, Ind.) and Shelby Kell (Charlottesville, Ind.), also a freshman, put a new standard up in the 50-yard freestyle during her section of the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 27.29 clocking.
"We did some good things today," Kroll noted. "There were improvements across the board from Purdue."
"Progress is being made," he added. "The next step is to see where we go from here with two more strong opponents coming in next weekend in Franklin and Indiana Wesleyan. It's a step-by-step process, as we move towards some bigger events at Ohio Wesleyan and Illinois Tech which highlight the first half of the season."
MU honors its five women's team members of the Class of 2018 during their home season finale Saturday, Nov. 11. Meet time is 1 p.m.
