Spartans continue to search for first win of season against Earlham College

 

The Spartans having a difficult time trying to find their first win on the season come out hopeful on senior night, October 27, 2018. The Spartans gave up their first goal (4:35) putting the score 1-0 in the first ten minutes. Senior Cami Holford (Valprasio, Ind.) got to see some field time, not as a keeper, but as a forward. Still hopful and fighting strong, senior Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) scored Manchester's first goal (14:46), assited by senior Isabella Zoog (Brownsburg, Ind.). Striking while the Quakers were down, Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) scored her second goal (15:18), putting the Spartans up 2-1. Continuing to fight the Spartans ended the first half having 9 shots on goal and limiting the Quakers to only 2 shots on goal. 

Going into half time the Spartans led the Quakers 2-1 on their senior day. During halftime Manchester recogized their seniors on the team, Cami Holford (Valprasio, Ind.), Caroline Smith (Mason, Ohio), Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.), and Isabella Zoog (Brownsburg, Ind.), as it was their last home game. 

Starting the second half, the Spartans contiued to fight as they battled the Quakers. It was a tough half with two yellow cards handed out to senior Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) (77:37) and junior Katie Green (Chesterton, Ind.) (82:14). Manchester proved strong and battled on after these penalties. The Earlham Quakers snuck two goals in in the 80th minute (82:48) (87:37) leading the Spartans to fall to the Quakers. The match ended with a final score of 3-2 and the Spartans having their heads held high. Even though it was a tough loss the Spartans walked off the field with smiles, enjoying the time and memories spent with their seniors. 

The Manchester women's soccer team finshed their season with and will be back in action next year.
