LEXINGTON, KY. – Sophomore forward/midfielder Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) and senior midfielder Jessica Sanchez (Fort Wayne, Ind.) combined for four of Manchester University's six shot attempts during Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Transylvania University Saturday, Oct. 14.
Birmingham's two shots were each leveled at the Pioneers' net on the TU Athletics Complex pitch, one of which rang true in the 60th minute for her sixth goal of the season. The tally wasn't enough to overcome an opposing offense that produced three scores in less than seven minutes early in the second half as part of a 4-1 decision.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Smith (Mason, Ohio) amassed seven saves. It was her seventh successive appearance with six-or-more.
MU (1-10 overall, 1-4 HCAC) opens two in a row at home Wednesday, Oct. 19. Defiance College of Ohio is the Black and Gold's guest for a 3:30 p.m. start.
