RICHMOND, IND. – A goal in the final minutes of regulation from senior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) helped keep Manchester University among the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top four Saturday, Oct. 25.
Barta's shot, which eluded Earlham College net minder A.J. Johnson in the 88th minute, was a well-placed strike from the right side of the field into the upper left of the goal. It concluded a strong afternoon for the senior, as she totaled six shot attempts all of which were on goal.
The 1-1 tie almost didn't last. Each side had opportunities in the two extra sessions, but MU senior keeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) and Johnson kept the scoreboard the same with a combined five saves over the 20-minute span.
Barta and junior midfielder Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.) put up 10 of the Spartans' 22 total shots. Willmann ended the contest with five saves.
Manchester University closes the regular season with back-to-back home matches Tuesday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Nov. 1. They welcome Franklin College and Mt. St. Joseph University of Ohio to the pitch at Spartan Field for 3:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. kickoffs, respectively.
