ANDERSON, IND. – A pair of goals from junior midfielder Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.), coupled with strong play in the net from senior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.), sent Manchester University to an important Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Rowe got the Black and Gold's offense out of the gate quickly. Taking a feed from senior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.), she struck a score past Ravens' keeper Dani Gilles in the 10th minute. The two sides stayed that way thanks to Gilles and Willmann keeping the scoreboard clear of any more tallies until Rowe and Barta worked together for a second time to make it 2-0 in the 82nd minute. AU (7-8-2 overall, 2-2-2 HCAC) responded with a goal in the 83rd minute but couldn't close any further, as MU moved to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the conference with the 2-1 win.
The hosts held a 9-7 edge in total shots, while the visitors had two more shots on frame (6-4). Barta and Rowe each had two attempts.
MU, staying fourth on the league standings and just a half-match behind Rose-Hulman for third, continues its current league road trip Saturday, Oct. 25. Kickoff at Earlham College is 1 p.m.
NOTES: Rowe upped her season goals' total to eight with her second multi-mark contest of the season. She also increased her game-winning strikes to four … Barta notched her second multiple-assist game of 2014. Her season total stands at six.
