Spartan Shorts: MU takes a 6-8 overall and 3-2 conference record to AU. They stand fourth on the HCAC standings , just a half-match behind Rose-Hulman for third … Coach Andy Stout's squad battled Rose-Hulman tooth and nail in a thrilling extra-session match at Spartan Field Oct. 18 before falling 1-0. The home side held a 19-15 overall and 9-6 shots on goal advantage but Fightin' Engineer net minder Lucinda Combs and Spartan senior keeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) put on an impressive display. Willmann knocked away five R-H attempts, and Combs ended with nine saves. The Black and Gold received five offensive strikes from senior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) with two that Combs had turn away, while the freshman duo of forward/midfielder Pfeiffer Neubert (Dearborn, Mich.) and midfielder Jenny Pudlo (Crown Point, Ind.) added three attempts each. Pudlo had two that were saved, while her third, coming in the waning moments of regulation, went just high over the upper left hand corner of the net … Willmann's afternoon kept her in the HCAC's top five in saves (No. 4 – 91). Barta and junior midfielder Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.) are in similar scenarios, as Barta is tied for fourth in goals (six) and assists (four) and is part of a tie for third in points (16), and Rowe is also among the fourth-place tie for goals.
