Black and Gold open week on high note

TIFFIN, OHIO – Senior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) added to her school-record career shutout total Wednesday, Sept. 17, highlighting a 4-0 Manchester University win over Heidelberg University.

Willmann's 21st clean sheet featured two saves in the midst of 10 HU shot attempts at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. The Spartans' offense gave their keeper plenty of assistance with three scores during the first stanza and one in the second frame.

The midfielder combination of junior Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.) and sophomore Allison Moore (Richmond, Ind.) began the first half scoring with a pair of strikes just under 28 minutes in. Penalty kick markers from senior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) in the first half and junior forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) during the second 45 minutes wrapped up MU's total. The Spartans (2-4) accumulated 20 overall shots with Barta and A. Rowe topping the individual chart (four each).

MU continues a string of three successive matches against the Ohio Athletic Conference Saturday, Sept. 20. Otterbein University comes to Spartan Field for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
