Ohio swing begins for MU

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. – Senior midfielder Sofie Tzortzinis (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and freshman defender Jaclyn Scialdone (Noblesville, Ind.) each turned in shot attempts to lead Manchester University in a clash at No. 11-ranked Thomas More College Sunday, Sept. 14.

Tzortzinis' try was knocked away by Saints' goalkeeper Christy Smith to preserve a clean sheet in a 5-0 decision for the home team. TMC, improving to 6-0, used a strong offensive attack in the opening 20 minutes, striking three goals in the span as part of a 20-2 overall shots advantage, to get out to a fast start.

Despite the attack, MU senior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) tallied seven saves. It was the seventh successive appearance, dating back through the end of last season, in which she's registered five-or-more.

MU (1-4) makes a trip to Heidelberg University of the Ohio Athletic Conference Wednesday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is 4 p.m. at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex just off HU's campus. The Spartans, as part of a stretch of three successive matches against the OAC, return to their home pitch Saturday, Sept. 20, for a home meeting with fellow OAC member Otterbein University.
