Black and Gold battle OAC foe

WILMINGTON, OHIO – Working its way through a 20-4 shots disadvantage, Manchester University gave perennial Ohio Athletic Conference top half finisher Wilmington College a stern test Saturday, Sept. 28.

Facing the final of four OAC opponents and also closing the non-conference section of their schedule, the Spartans (4-5-1) battled back from a 1-0 halftime deficit. Freshman defender/midfielder Emily Anderson (Ann Arbor, Mich.) found the Quakers' net in the 51st minute, becoming the eighth Spartans' player to tally a goal this season.

Wilmington managed to score the eventual game-winning goal just over 10 minutes later and held on for a 2-1 decision, as Manchester University finished 2-2 against the OAC. Junior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) kept her teammates close with nine saves.

Sophomore defender/midfielder Kabrina Hydre-Yusoff (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman midfielder/forward Allison Moore (Richmond, Ind.) both added to MU's offense. They finished with a shot on goal apiece.

The Spartans return home and raise the curtain on the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference slate Saturday, Oct. 5. Hanover College visits Spartan Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
