WHEATON, Ill. – Two days of wrestling concluded this afternoon as the Manchester wrestling team completed competition in the Pete Wilson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.
Manchester had a solid performance this weekend, placing 12th out of 38 teams.
Mount Union had the highest team score of 135.0 points. North Central (Ill.) placed second with 105.5 points and Baldwin Wallace rounded out the top three with 98.0 points. The Spartans earned 63.0 points.
Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind. / Perry Meridian) once again led the Spartans with a strong weekend performance, placing third in the 141-weight class. Napier went 7-1 over the two-day event. JaVon Phillips (Centerville, Ind. / Centerville) won six-of-eight bouts and placed fifth at 149-pounds. Skyler Gomez (LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte) finished sixth at 133-pounds, winning five matches this weekend. Nick Joyner (Bedford, Ind. / Bedford North Lawrence) placed eight at 285 pounds.
MU will wrestle again next weekend on Sunday Feburay 3 against Indiana Tech.
