Advancing Aces – MU sends quartet to regional final day

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND. – A 28.5-point team total and top 10 team placing characterized Manchester University's first day at the 2018 NCAA Division III Central Region Championships Friday, Feb. 23.

Coach Kevin Lake's squad was led individually by senior 141-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.); junior 133-pounder Ben Cauffman (Fort Wayne, Ind.); sophomore 149-pounder Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior heavyweight Nick Joyner (Bedford, Ind.). Wilson closing in on his second successive 30-win campaign reached the championship semifinals with a fall over Thomas More College's Parker Buschelman and a 5-2 decision against Wabash College's Brice Everson. Despite each taking losses in the early rounds of the winners bracket, Cauffman, Napier and Joyner each rebounded to gain the consolation quarterfinals with two victories apiece.

Seven pins fueled the Black and Gold's team point cadre. Joyner and Napier tallied two apiece.

The Spartans' quartet looks to keep its compasses pointed towards Cleveland, Ohio, and a spot in the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships Saturday, Feb. 24. Competition at WC's Knowling Fieldhouse gets underway at 10 a.m.
