LIBERTY, IND. – Manchester University's final pre-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships outing gave them a glance of the league tourney course Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30.
Head coach Tara Boone's Spartans wound up seventh at the HCAC Preview event, hosted by Earlham College and held at Liberty Country Club. They used a 17-stroke improvement, good for the third-best such effort, from the first to second rounds to put them at 713, just 12 strokes away from a first five finish.
Individually, three Black and Gold players were among the best 25. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) was the squad's low placer for a fourth successive meet, turning in 18s of 86 and 82 for a 168 that situated her tied for 11th. Senior Haleigh Fernandez (Selma, Ind.) and freshman Mary McGuire (Fishers, Ind.) were next in line, tying for 23rd (179).
MU seeks individual and team honors Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14, at the 2018 HCAC Championships to conclude the 2018 fall schedule.
