HARRISON, OHIO – An impressive theme for the Manchester University women's golf program continued Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and 3.
Coach Tara Boone's Spartans played the Miami-Whitewater Course that housed Mt. St. Joseph University's Stateline Shootout to the tune of 717 over 36 holes. Their 18-hole marks showed the consistency that helped lead the Black and Gold to a season-opening tournament championship for a second successive season, as they started with a 359 Saturday and closed with a 358 Sunday. The 36-hole score left them 15 strokes ahead of the runner-up and host Lions.
MU's run to the top spot was fueled by four individuals ending in the top seven. Senior Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.), who had led the medalist race after the first 18 (83), was the low finisher, taking third with a 176; freshman Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) was just one spot behind (4th – 179); fellow freshman Taylor Erfman (Brookville, Ind.) was tied for fifth (180); and senior Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) rounded out the quartet, winding up seventh (182).
MU continues its fall schedule Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 10, traveling to Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind., for the Hanover College Invitational.
