TERRE HAUTE, IND. – A trio of individuals among the top 20 helped Manchester University conclude a sixth Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference top five team finish in the last seven seasons Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9.
The junior duo of Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.) led the way for Coach Tara Boone's crew at Hulman Links on Rose-Hulman's campus. Powers tallied a 181 to tie for 15th, marking her third straight top 30 conference placing, while Smith was just five strokes back of her teammate (186) to place in a tie for 19th. Sophomore Haleigh Fernandez (Selma, Ind.) was next in line for the Black and Gold, playing back-to-back rounds of 94 for a 188 to tie for 20th.
Looking further on the team's individual scores, sophomore Emily Milburn (Lebanon, Ind.) dropped her first round total by two strokes over Sunday's final 18 (109-107) to turn in a 216 36-hole mark. On the team leaderboard, MU's 771 was just 52 shots shy of Transylvania University for fourth. Hanover College claimed its fourth straight league title, edging the host Fightin' Engineers (693-705).
