FRANKLIN, IND. – The trio of sophomores Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Madison Yenser (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and freshman Haleigh Fernandez (Selma, Ind.) was among the individual top 20 at Franklin College's Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24.
Powers guided the group and the Spartans, who finished fourth with a 36-hole 760, with rounds of 94 and 90 at Hillview Country Club for a 184 total that placed her 16th in the 29-golfer field. Yenser was next with a 189 which placed her 18th, and Fernandez entered the clubhouse at 192 to wind up 19th.
The host Grizzlies held off Spalding University of Kentucky by 13 strokes (692-705) for the top spot. MU's score, which was highlighted by a 10-stroke improvement from the first to second rounds and was the best such compilation in the field, put them 45 shots ahead of Transylvania University for fourth.
