Panthers Stop Spartans on Saturday

HANOVER, Ind. – Manchester University dropped a road contest at Hanover College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 84-45.  The Spartans had their two-game win streak snapped.

The Spartans stayed with the host Panthers for much of the first and second quarters. MU held the Panthers to 39 percent shooting in the opening half and Hanover made just 1-of-6 three-point attempts in the first 20 minutes.  A layup by Hillery Shepherd (Middletown, Ind. / Shendoah) drew Manchester within a basket at 26-24 with 5:50 left in the second quarter.  Hanover forced several key Spartan turnovers and ended the half on a 14-4 run to take a 40-28 lead at the intermission.

Manchester was unable to overcome Hanover's hot shooting in third and fourth quarters, as the Panthers combined to shoot 16-of-28 (57 percent) from the field.

Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) lead all MU players with nine points off the bench.  Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind. / South Putnam) scored six points.  Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) added seven points and eight rebounds against the Panthers.

Both Alexis Nall and Claire Cromer scored 14 points for the Panthers. Hanover held a 50-35 advantage on the glass in Saturday's contest.
