LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania held on to the top spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings on Saturday afternoon, improving to 7-1 in league action following a 91-64 victory over Manchester.
Manchester fell behind early in Saturday's contest and Transylvania used hot shooting to earn their 13th win of the season.
Haley Farris (Sharpsville, Ind. / Tri-Central) led MU with 14 points and six rebounds. Bridget Nash (Carmel, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) knocked down four triples and finished in double figures with 12 points. Maddy Minehart (Auburn, Ind. / Eastside) and Hannah Smith (Upland, Ind. / Eastbrook) tallied eight and seven points respectively.
The Pioneers were led by Celia Kline's 18 points. Shelby Boyle and Ashton Woodard both contributed 16 points.
The Pioneers' defense held Manchester University to 31 percent (21-of-67) shooting from the floor. The Spartans did make 10 three-pointers, shooting a healthy 46 percent (10-of-22) from downtown. Manchester University also shot 71 percent from the free throw line, sinking 12-of-17 attempts.
Transylvania shot 52 percent (33-of-62) from the field and also made 10 threes. TU outrebounded Manchester 51-25.
Transylvania sits atop the HCAC standings with a record of 13-2, 7-1 HCAC. Manchester University fell to 2-13, 0-8 HCAC. The Spartans will conclude the first half of the conference slate with road game at Bluffton on Wednesday January 16. Tip-off from Ohio is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
