Manchester Falls Short against Ravens

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University women's basketball team fell short against visiting Anderson University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.  The Ravens outlasted the Spartans 54-45.

Manchester remained close for much of the opening half and built a six-point lead towards the end of the second quarter due in large part to a 12-2 run.  During that run, the Spartans got baskets from Haley Farris (Sharpsville, Ind. / Tri-Central) and Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead).

The Ravens closed the gap just before halftime as Lexi Dellinger scored five straight points to bring AU within one.  Manchester led 22-21 at halftime.

A strong third quarter by Anderson gave the Ravens control of Wednesday night's game.  AU outscored the Spartans 21-10 in the third quarter.

The Spartans were able to trim a double digit Raven lead to just six with just 1:39 left in the game.  Anderson converted foul shots down the stretch to secure the win.

Free throw shooting was a factor in Wednesday night's contest.  The Ravens finished 17-of-26 (65.4 percent).  Manchester was 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) from the charity stripe.  On the night, Anderson finished 16-of-48 (33 percent) from the floor and 5-of-16 (38.5 percent) from three.  Manchester University shot 17-77 (22.1 percent) and 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from downtown.

Faith-Alexis Graham (Indianapolis, Ind. / North Central) led MU with 12 points and four steals.  Haley Farris added 10 points.  Nicole Weaver scored eight points off the bench.

Lexi Dellinger led the Ravens with 15 points.

The Ravens improved to 8-6, 4-3 HCAC with Wednesday's win.  The Spartans fell to 2-12, 0-7 HCAC. MU will hit the road this weekend and travel to Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.  Game time against the Pioneers is scheduled for Saturday January 12 at 1 p.m.
