Spartans, AU close out season series

A mid-week clash between Manchester University and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Anderson University is next for the Spartans Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Game details: The 7:30 p.m. contest is set for Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on MU's campus … Live audio, statistics and video are available through links at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … A recent series history trend shows the Spartans' program winning 23 of the last 28 including a 65-63 thriller on the road last month.

Spartan Shorts: MU (6-15 overall, 5-9 HCAC) finds itself in a four-way tie for sixth on the loop standings with four games remaining … Coach Josh Dzurick's team was stopped by perennial conference power Transylvania University 60-45 Feb. 3 in its last outing. Despite hitting just over 26 percent from the field overall and only 22.2 percent from three-point range, the Spartans battled tooth and nail with the visiting Pioneers. They trailed by as little as nine in the final minute of the third period, but a made three-pointer before the quarter buzzer sparked a 10-0 roll that propelled TU to the decision. Sophomore guard Haley Farris (Sharpsville, Ind.) was just a rebound separated from a double-double, tallying 14 points, fueled by a seven-of-seven effort at the charity stripe, and nine boards. Junior guard Faith-Alexis Graham (Indianapolis, Ind.) was next in line with 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists … Farris' double-figure scoring total was her seventh of the season, while she remained consistent as a strong glass crasher with a 14th five-or-more board effort … Graham enters Wednesday's game on a modest roll, averaging 10.5 points, two assists, and five rebounds per appearance over the past two games played. Her back-to-back double-digit point games mark the first time the junior has done so since reeling off three straight such outings during her sophomore season … Sophomore guard Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.) continues to be among the league's best 10 in assists (2.9 pg – No. 6) and steals (1.9 pg – No. 8). She's recorded at least one steal in eight straight contests and at least one assist in four successive opportunities.

Weekend Road Trip: Hanover College's Collier Arena is the destination for the Spartans Saturday, Feb. 10. Tip-off times are 3 p.m. for the men and 5 p.m. for the women.
