The second half of the 2017-18 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule resumes Wednesday, Jan. 31.
Game details: Manchester University takes on Franklin College … Game time is 7:30 p.m. at FC's Spurlock Center … Live audio, statistics, and video are accessible at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … Coach Josh Dzurick's team is tied for seventh, just a game behind the Grizzlies for the sixth and final qualifying slot … MU won the first installment of the 2017-18 season series, as the recent trend in the overall annals shows Franklin College claiming 13 of the past 17 meetings.
Spartan Shorts: Sophomore guard Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.), including a 12-point effort against Mt. St. Joseph University Jan. 27, has reeled off five straight double-digit scoring games. Much of the success can be credited to a similar run in which she's hit at least one three-point basket which features three outings of three-or-more makes … Weaver also dished off a pair of assists and picked up a steal in 27 minutes of action against MSJ. Another sophomore guard, Haley Farris (Sharpsville, Ind.) wasn't far off pace for a double-double for the Spartans, either, with seven points and 12 rebounds to go with three assists in 27 minutes. However, from that point on, it was a story of cold shooting inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena and a balanced effort from the visitors that led the Lions to a 65-40 league victory. MU, falling to 5-14 overall and 4-8 in the league, finished under 25 percent overall but was especially tepid from outside the arc, hitting on just two of 21 attempts … Farris' 12 boards marked a personal single-game collegiate high and tied the team's best this season along with junior forward/center Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who tallied the same number against Kalamazoo College in November.
Home Weekend: Transylvania University takes a northern journey to North Manchester for a league twinbill Saturday, Feb. 3. Game times at SWA are 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men).
